The Short Version

WattMarkets is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your load data files are processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded to our servers. We don't store your energy data, and we don't sell any information to third parties.

Data We Don't Collect

Your load data files — All CSV, Excel, and other files you upload are processed client-side in your browser. They never touch our servers.
Your analysis results — Statistics, charts, and scenario calculations happen locally. We don't see them.
Personal energy information — We have no access to your usage patterns, peak demands, or any load profile details.

Data We Do Collect

Email address — Only if you voluntarily submit it for early access updates. We use this solely to notify you about WattMarkets updates.
Basic analytics — We collect anonymous usage data (page views, feature usage, error rates) to improve the product. This does not include any of your load data.
Pricing data requests — When you enable pricing overlays, we fetch publicly available ISO settlement prices from our API. We log the date ranges and ISOs requested for performance optimization, but not your load data.

How Client-Side Processing Works

When you drop a file into WattMarkets, JavaScript running in your browser parses and analyzes the data. The file contents never leave your device. Our servers only provide:

The web application code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
Historical ISO settlement pricing data when requested

This architecture means even we cannot access your load profiles, regardless of any legal requests or security incidents on our end.

Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser local storage to remember your preferences (such as selected ISO and chart settings) between sessions. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.

Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services for:

Analytics — To understand how the product is used (anonymized)
Email delivery — To send updates if you subscribe

These services have their own privacy policies. We select providers that respect user privacy and do not sell data.

Future Features

If we introduce features that require server-side data storage (such as saved analyses or share links), we will:

Require explicit opt-in consent
Encrypt data at rest
Allow you to delete your data at any time
Update this privacy policy accordingly
