PJM prices, live

Real-time LMPs for the 21 PJM transmission zones, straight from the market, updated as each hour settles. Their average is the price line on the dashboard, and the spread between zones is the congestion story. High prices and peak risk travel together.

What prices are these?

Real-time hourly locational marginal prices (LMPs) for PJM's transmission zones, in dollars per megawatt-hour. Each zone is a utility footprint — PSE&G is northern New Jersey, ComEd is Chicago, Dominion is most of Virginia. PJM posts each hour promptly as unverified and verifies it about a day later; the table updates in place when verification lands. This is what wholesale energy actually clears at in each region, not a retail rate.

Why do the zones differ?

Transmission congestion. PJM stretches from Chicago to the Atlantic, and when the lines between regions run full, cheap power can't reach the expensive side. On a hot afternoon the eastern seaboard zones routinely clear at multiples of the western ones.

What does this have to do with 5CP?

Scarcity. The five coincident peaks are the hours the whole RTO strains at once, and strained hours clear expensive. When the zone average climbs on a summer afternoon, that afternoon is exactly the kind that ends up in the top five.

Is this what my facility pays?

Not directly. Your energy bill settles at your own node or your supplier's terms, and your capacity charge comes from your PLC — the 5CP mechanism. Your zone's price is the closest public read on your region's scarcity, not your invoice.
