What is CAISO, and what does this page show?
CAISO runs the grid and wholesale market for most of California. This page reads its condition live: system demand, today's peak so far, generation by fuel (the solar flood, the batteries, the evening ramp), and real-time prices at the three trading hubs.
How fresh is this data?
Demand, hub prices, and the fuel mix all post on CAISO's five-minute cadence, from its public feeds. /status shows every feed's age.
Why do batteries show negative at midday?
They are charging on cheap solar. The stack dips below zero while storage absorbs energy and swings positive in the evening when it discharges into the ramp. That daily rhythm is the duck curve, and it has its own page.
Does WattMarkets forecast CAISO peaks?
No. CAISO is a grid we track: load, prices, DART, and the fuel mix, with no call and no record. The forecast markets are ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE.
