What is SPP, and what does this page show?

Southwest Power Pool runs the grid and wholesale market for 14 states across the wind belt, the Dakotas down to Oklahoma. This page reads its condition live: system demand, today's peak so far, generation by fuel, and real-time prices at the two quoted hubs.

How fresh is this data?

Demand, hub prices, and the fuel mix all post on SPP's five-minute cadence, from its public portal files. /status shows every feed's age.

Why does wind dominate the mix here?

SPP sits on the best wind resource in the country and regularly serves more than half its load from wind, sometimes past seventy percent. When the wind dies on a hot afternoon, gas fills the gap and prices move. The stack shows that trade live.

Does WattMarkets forecast SPP peaks?

No. SPP is a grid we track: load, prices, DART, and the fuel mix, with no call and no record. The forecast markets are ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, and ISO-NE.
